Definition of a steel rod

Author:

A steel cylindrical grinding media. It is typically hot-rolled from high-manganese steel, high-carbon steel, low-alloy carbon steel, or wear-resistant alloy steel. The diameter of the rod is generally below 100 mm, often ranging from 50 to 75 mm, and its length is slightly shorter than the length of the grinding chamber.

A cylindrical grinding medium made of steel. It is typically hot-rolled from high-manganese steel, high-carbon steel, low-alloy carbon steel, or wear-resistant alloy steel. The diameter of the rods is generally below 100 mm, often ranging from 50 to 75 mm, and their length is slightly shorter than the length of the grinding chamber. Because the steel rods are in line contact within the mill, they first grind larger particles and then smaller ones, thereby exhibiting a selective crushing effect.
