Definition of a steel rod
2012-08-11
A steel cylindrical grinding media. It is typically hot-rolled from high-manganese steel, high-carbon steel, low-alloy carbon steel, or wear-resistant alloy steel. The diameter of the rod is generally below 100 mm, often ranging from 50 to 75 mm, and its length is slightly shorter than the length of the grinding chamber.
Configuration Method for Diameter and Length of Steel Rods in a Rod Mill
2012-07-18
The diameter of the steel rods should be selected appropriately: they must be capable of crushing large feed lumps while also providing sufficient surface area. Smaller-diameter rods have a larger surface area and cause less wear on the lining plates. However, smaller-diameter rods are more expensive per unit weight and have a shorter service life, as they quickly wear down to an unusable size of 25–40 mm. Once worn to this size, the rods become prone to fracture and bending.
